Katie Kriner
Katie Kriner started rug hooking over ten years ago. She began hooking designs by other artists, but soon developed her own original style. Through various classes and camps, she developed her skills, designed patterns, color planned, and dyed wool for her own rugs. From there she found a niche helping customers and friends do the same for their own rugs. She opened her own shop in the Fall of 2017. You can find her at The Bee & The Bear in Hereford, PA. The 1860s general store is the perfect setting for a wool and thread retail business with classes for punch needle and rug hooking.
Rug Hooking with Wool Strips, published by Schiffer Publishing Co., is her first book on rug hooking. It came out in October 2021 and contains 20 rug hooking projects for the modern rug hooker. The book contains ideas and projects that include floor rugs, a tea cozy, wine tote, pillows, purses and much more. It is a book that introduces one to rug hooking but also gives many projects and ideas for the seasoned rug hooker.
Most of the pieces she designs and makes are either for her home and personal use or for friends and family. She is a lifelong gardener which serves as inspiration for much of her work. Katie lives in southeastern Pennsylvania with her husband and 2-year-old twins.
Her shop is located at 57 Star Road Hereford, PA 18056 and online at www.thebeethebear.com.
