Description: Learn how to build and operate a portable stacked-brick oven, and how to make and bake flatbreads and pizza, all in the same day!
Using fire bricks that are available on-site, students will follow the class handout, working together to build an outdoor oven, and safely using a manual wood splitter to make the oven kindling. Once the wood is prepared and the oven is built, you will fire it up so you can enjoy the fruits of your labor in the afternoon. After lunch, students will watch David prepare various doughs, then use them to bake and enjoy naan, pita bread, and pizza at the end of class! Information on other outdoor ovens will be included in the handout, and oven site selection will be discussed, too.
