Description
In this one-day class, which is offered on Saturday and again on Sunday, students will make their own decorative miniature weather vane out of sheet copper, selecting either an angel, a horse, a dove, a pig, a chicken, or a fish design. Hand hammered to shape; a chemical patina is then applied, followed by soldering the pieces together. Students will complete the project by creating a wooden base enhanced with Japanese shou sugi ban, a charring technique that originated in the 18th century. If time allows, students will be able to transform a piece of tin sheet into a punched tin hanging ornament.
