Description: Portmanteaux were the carry-on luggage of the eighteenth century. Equally at home behind the cantle of a saddle, under the bench of a coach-and-four, or in the overhead stowage of a modern passenger jet, students will have the opportunity to create a lovely reproduction of a rare example from the Fort Ticonderoga collection. In so doing, they will build upon the elementary skills and knowledge of the Leatherworking 101 class, and will develop intermediate skills that can be used toward the intermediate-advanced Leatherworking 201 class.
Students will prepare waxed-ends (twisted thread tipped with a flexible wild boar bristle), prepare pre-cut portmanteau pieces for assembly, apply bindings, texture the leather, sew and attach leather-wrapped handles, prepare straps, attach buckles and straps, and sew the portmanteau together.
Lunch and snacks are provided on both days
