Shoemaking with Molly Grant, Cordwainer Shop


Make your own custom handmade leather shoes!

Instructor Molly Grant will give a brief history of the Cordwainer Shop, founded in 1925 in New Hampshire.  Using original tin patterns from the 1920s, students will learn basic pattern-making. From start to finish, this process is 100% hands-on shoe work.

  • Learn basic pattern making.

  • Choose from an array of leathers.

  • Create a pair of shoes that conform to your foot measurements.

Class Length:  Four day

Date: Thursday — Saturday, May 2—4: 9am — 5pm; Sunday, May 5: 10am — 2pm

No. of Students:  Minimum 3, Maximum 12

Description:  Students choose from an array of leathers to create a pair of shoes made to their exact foot measurement. From cutting the leather, lacing the uppers together and culminating with hand-lacing the soles to the uppers, Cordwainer shoes are unique in the world of shoemaking. The final product leaves the students feeling amazed and proud of their unique shoes.
