Introduction to Calligraphy


The Art of Beautiful Writing

This two-day class will start with a brief overview of the history of various writing styles and a discussion of applicable tools and materials.

Over the course of two days, we will explore three different “hands,” using flat, broad edge nibs.

  • Foundational: the best place to start, for understanding basic letterforms

  • Uncial: an easy, distinctive style… great for cards and projects

  • German Blackletter: an intricate hand… often used for formal certificates

Class Length:  Two day

Date: Saturday, July 13  9am — 5pm;  Sunday, July 14 9am — 3pm

No. of Students:  Minimum: 3, Maximum: 12

Tools: The $25 materials fee will provide you with everything you need for this course: Various nibs, pen holder, ink, pad of Rhodia paper, printed instructional aides, and materials for you to complete a few notecards/bookmarks.

Description: The instructor will demonstrate, provide you with practice sheets, and help you during your hands-on experience. Choosing your favorite style(s), you will create a few finished projects to take home (notecards & bookmarks).
