No. of Students: Minimum 3
Tools: Bring from home: a dust mask and work gloves. This is very dirty work so dress appropriately!
Description: Students will meet to first learn the history of fireplaces and how they may have been modified. They will then learn how to evaluate their fireplace: its size, how the hearth is supported and what repairs it needs. One of the easiest ways to date a house is to understand its fireplace(s). They will work on a fireplace in an historic Waterford home that is in need of repair. First they will determine how it was constructed and what materials were used. Damper options will be discussed then a restoration plan will be devised.
Students will then get to work with Allen Cochran guiding them
