Building a Bat House

Student will learn about native bats of the region and construct a bat house to take home.

  • Learn about native bats of the region and how they benefit our environment.

  • Visit the Phillips Farm to observe bat habitat.

  • Build a bat house to take home!

Instructors: Susan Simms and Barbara Erlandson

Instructors Bio: Susan Sims is a certified Virginia Master Naturalist (VMN) and serves on the Board of Directors as President for the Banshee Reeks Chapter. She has nearly twenty years’ experience in community programming, facilitation and environmental education. She teaches about bats, turtles, habitats, birds and plants on a regular basis, and enjoys any opportunity to get outside and engage with nature.

Class Length:  Mini Class (3.5 hours)

Date: Saturday, June 1  6pm — 9:30pm

No. of Students:  Minimum: 3, Maximum: 12

Tools: Students should bring a staple gun, a Phillips screw driver and/or an electric drill with a Phillips head.

Description: Learn about the native bats of our region and build a bat house to benefit the bats in your own backyard!
